How do you take your coffee?

Ms Prosperina is a genetic monster trying to take over the world by spiking the coffee at her Starry Eyed Coffee Hut chain … and she’ll stop at nothing.

It’s up to her unwitting creator, the geneticist Professor Quan, to stop her. In an attempt to correct his mistake, Professor Quan creates a network of people with the power of true love genetically coded within them. They alone might resist Ms Prosperina’s attempt to change the course of humanity.

Everything hangs in the balance when Eddie, altered at birth by Quan’s genetic mutation powder, fails to follow his pre-ordained destiny. The trauma of his father’s death has left Eddie drifting through a meaningless life and has caused him to stray from Quan’s master plan.

Will Quan succeed in helping Eddie regain the light behind his eyes and will they succeed in foiling Ms Prosperina’s evil plans?

Could the world really end at General Beauregard's 24-hour fried chicken restaurant?

Fishing for Light eBook Nathaniel Sewell

Fishing for Light is an amazingly wild ride, as one of the other reviews pointed out; it has the IRS, the Hope Diamond and this genetic monster freak, Ms. Prosperina. I understood it was a satire, I love satires, but I’ve now read it twice. There are so many cool references, and nuances that the author was able inject without being obvious. This novel is like a really good sauce, it’s full of depth and interesting flavors, in a Candide sense, and he created these fictionalized famous people, like teenaged Bill (President Clinton) and Jimmy (Jimmy Buffet) who are Professor Quan’s first two test subjects, just before the Elvis sighting, hilarious! After I read it the first time, I went and started looking up some of the references, like the name Prosperina, and then I found the authors website and his blog explains much of the depth behind the story. Honestly, I really enjoyed the read, I have not read a story like this in a very long time, and it was pleasant surprise. It is tough to buy a novel from an unknown author, but I got the ebook on sale for 99 cents. It was well written and I wonder about Eddie.

Fishing for Light eBook Nathaniel Sewell Reviews

The title of this book along with the cover photo was very deceiving to me. I see that and I think it is going to be a book about a parent's perspective on raising a child and all the wonderful things that come behind the experience. This was far from what this book was actually about! I enjoy reading fiction novels however the storyline in this book was totally far fetched for me and I really had a hard time believing let alone enjoying what I was reading. I realize where the author was going with this, to add humor into a story line and I could see that it parts of the story. However this was not my cup of tea at all but if you enjoy a story full of satire, government conspiracies and the idea of our genetic compound being tampered with, well then this is the book for you. It had too much mixed in within the story that at times it made it hard to follow the story line but then the author added a lot of jargon that dealt with genetic code that at that point I was lost. So this was not for me but like I said it could be a good story for one looking for a novel that is based on some peoples reality or if you want to enjoy a book that was designed to bring a smile to your face.

**I received a copy of this book for my review. However, these opinions and views are my own.
Grade C+ (Three and half stars)

I have a hard time not thinking of books seriously, comedy books are hard for me, since I’m so used to reading regular fiction. But, this book was a good choice. It was funny, in an over the top kind of way. I mean it’s got the IRS, genetic monsters, and the Hope Diamond! It’s just got a lot going on for me, which made it a little hard to read. I did enjoy the hyped up war between a father and a daughter. His genetically modified, evil daughter! It’s got a lot of funny situations, and a lot of great characters. It’s a well written book, but for me, it just felt like there was a little too much crowded into the book. I laughed quite a bit, and I was entertained, I think the author did a great job of taking what we would usually expect and twisting it around a bit. I think overall, for a satire lover, this book would be a home run, I just think too much to work well with satire, but I still enjoyed this book.

*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Edward Tiberius Wilcox was average in almost every way that one could perceive. He was average in size, made average grades in community college and worked at an unassuming job in a medium sized insurance company. Yet to Professor Quan, a hermitic scientist living in the depths of an Appalachian cave, the circumstances of Edward's birth set him apart. Though theses two have never met directly they must battle the ultimate evil, Ms. Proserpina, a genetic mutant and creation of one of Professor Quan's misguided experiments.

Nathaniel Sewell's FISHING FOR LIGHT is a satiric look at the use of technology and particle physics to control the human race. Edie Wilcox finds himself caught up in this unseen "quantum war" between Professor Quan and his evil genetically modified daughter, Ms. Proserpina.

The satire is relatively low key, as with the description of one of the "special" children, a boy from the rural south who plays the saxophone and is headed to Georgetown University. When most of the character descriptions seem headed toward stereotype, the author takes a sharp turn into the comic absurd. The evil Ms. Proserpina, despite her almost insurmountable strength, has a weakness for Kentucky bourbon and cigarettes while Edie's friend, Jim Bob, a good ol' boy of a short order cook, amasses $250,000 by selling "personal" athletic equipment from NFL stars. The ultimate confrontation between good and evil does not happen in some inter - galactic venue but in a General Beauregard's Fried Chicken franchise with Professor Quan disguised as a Col. Sanders look alike.

The plot is compelling but there are sections that seem a bit disjointed from the story line, especially in the beginning. Occasionally there is a dropped word or mis-spelling in the dialog but this poses only a minor flaw in the narration. However, the author leaves no loose ends and the story reaches a satisfying conclusion.

FISHING FOR LIGHT is a satirical science fiction story where the laws of physics are frangible, the genetic monsters are hilariously evil and the goodness of the human characters is evident despite our failings.
